Day 13: Two Canadian Girls Crying in a Thai Country Bar

Hello there,

Today is more or less just a repeat of yesterday's blog (basically a post to jog my memory down the line, not to wow you with my wild adventures here in Thailand). Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the beach days here. I'll never complain about day long plans that involve white sand beaches, warm sea water, and Thai food.

We woke up at 9am this morning in Patong Beach to find that the power to our entire street had been cut until 5:00pm. Needless to say, we packed up and checked out within 15 minutes and were at the beach after grabbing fresh mango juices for breakfast (I'm going to miss getting fresh mango juice multiple times a day).

As usually we just tanned, people watched, swam, people watched, tanned, people watched, swam, people watched. I would confidently say that Patong Beach has the best people watching in the entire world. I cannot even begin to describe a G rated version of this place. Free entertainment never came so easily.

From the old man holding a piece of bread in the air while he snorkelled, to the endless number of speedos (I mentioned the speedos right?), to the Russian man who talked to us for two minutes while we repeatedly explained to him we don't speak Russian, to the countless other individuals who provided us with endless entertainment all day.

After a couple hours at the beach our hunger won over and we headed to our favourite spot in Patong for a good old fashion American burger (McDonald's). After our health conscious lunch we picked up our packs at the hostel and grabbed a taxi to take us to our next location.

This time we snagged a southeast Asia classic; the Tuk Tuk. Fun to ride in, great place to get an awkward sun burn, and an incredibly unsafe contraption to take on the highway, but in Thailand it doesn't matter.

Our next location was Old Phuket Town.

After our taxi driver stopped twice to ask for directions (it's a thing in Thailand, taxi drivers know where nothing is) we finally arrived at our Bed and Breakfast and boy, were we in for a treat. Our room was clean cut and modern, I want to take the entire room home with me. It was a mild step up from the last 12 nights accommodations. We showered five days worth of sand off and basked in the cleanness.

After freshening up, we wandered out into town. Old Phuket Town is quaint and quiet little town with much older buildings and an amazing assortment of hipster style cafes. The architecture is detailed and full of various colours. There's the most eclectic collection of souvenir shops that sell the most unique Thai handicrafts and an endless supply of fabric stores that sell the boldest colours and patterns. Old Phuket Town may be the most captivating small town to explore with the extensive shops that sell the largest assortment of things.

We stopped at "a.delicious.moments" (they really love to translate things into English here, rarely do they make sense) coffee shop and indulged in the most amazing iced caramel macchiatos and enjoyed the nautical inspired decor and comfortable atmosphere.

Back at our hotel we headed up to the roof top patio for drinks (by drinks I mean pop). Like the rest of the hotel the patio was designed with modern inspiration and included the most comfortable net benches which hung over a small surrounding moat. The service was terrible and our waiter took our menu away before we even ordered but the scenery was incredible.

Like I've alluded to, our hotel is awesome and modern and includes the strangest decor.

That car is actually the reception desk.

While walking down the street on our quest to find a dinner spot we heard music and spotted some bobbing heads so we sprinted across the street and up the stairs to this amphitheatre and discovered this Zumba class.

Awesome.

We opted to have dinner at Cue Bar. It was a small town feel bad with a couple pool tables and a cheap menu. They played nonstop country music and it took us back home. We ordered curry, like we had many times before. We got our meal. We started to eat them. I love spicy food but Cue Bar took spicy to a new level. We sat there essentially crying as our tear ducts rated to the heat of the food. We probably looked really pathetic. But it tasted great.

Side note: make sure to wash your hands really well after popping the tails off your curry covered shrimp before rubbing your eyes (so much regret; so much pain).

After dinner we went back to our B&B where we sat in the weird sitting area in the foyer updating the blogs. I quite like this sweet little town though I do apologize for the less interesting two days. I can personally assure you that tomorrow may be the best day of this trip.

Tomorrow we go to Phi Phi Island.

As always, thanks for following along and prayers for safety and healthy are always appreciated.
